What is Frank working on?

Carmen Carmen is set to premiere in Prague, Czech Republic on 2 and 3 October 2008, with previews beginning 24 September. The show will be presented by Hudební Divadlo Karlín and Ta Fantastika. Lucie Bílá - one of the most popular singers and musical theater stars in the Czech Republic - is set to star in the title role, and Gabriel Barre will direct. Further casting will be announced at the end of April. The musical has lyrics by Jack Murphy and a book by Norman Allen. It is based on the legendary character from Prosper Mérimée's novella, and is not musically related to the opera of the same name. A website has been established for this production at

There are plans to bring Cyrano de Bergerac to the stage in Spain in 2009. Spanish singing star Raphael - who headlined the Spanish premiere of Jekyll & Hyde in 2000 - will star. A Spanish concept recording of the show featuring Raphael is in the works. A release date for the album and further details on the production have not been set, and will be forthcoming.

Count of Monte Cristo Frank is working with Jack Murphy on a musical version of The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas, père. The show is expected to premiere on 14 March 2009 at Theater St. Gallen in Switzerland, with Thomas Borchert in the title role. Koen Schoots will serve as musical director and Kim Scharnberg will provide orchestrations.

The most recent of these were the "Monday Nights, New Voices" series at The Duplex in Manhattan and the European premiere of "Frank Wildhorn & Friends" in Budapest, Hungary followed by a performance in Graz, Austria. Dracula, The Musical

A release date has now been set for the premiere cast recording of Dracula. The German-language recording will be available on 20 June 2008, and will feature cast members from the Musical Festival Graz production, as well as the Orchestra of Operett Színház in Budapest, Hungary, conducted by Koen Schoots.

Rudolf - The Last Kiss

Rudolf in Tokyo, Japan
Rudolf is having its Japanese Premiere, presented by Toho Musical & Play in Tokyo from 6 May through 1 June 2008. The cast for this production is led by Yoshio Inoue as Rudolf, Rena Sasamoto as Mary Vetsera, Rina Chinen as Princess Stephanie, Tatsuki Kohju as Countess Larisch and Kojiro Oka as Taaffe. The staging is directed by Amon Miyamoto. More information is available on the

There is also an official blog for the production, including two videos from a press event: Yoshio Inoue performing "Measure Of a Man" and Inoue and Rena Sasamoto performing "I Was Born For You". Yoshio Inoue is expected to include "The Steps of Tomorrow" from Rudolf on his upcoming album, "Welcome to the Theater", which should be available on 8 May.

Vereinigte Bühnen Wien has announced a late February 2009 opening for Rudolf in Vienna, Austria. The German-language premiere of the show will take place at the Raimund Theater. This production will be directed by David Leveaux (The Real Thing, Nine, Fiddler on the Roof).

Jekyll & Hyde

The Polish premiere of Jekyll is currently running at Teatr Rozrywki in Chorzów, Silesia, Poland. Performances began on 1 December 2007 and are currently scheduled through 20 June 2008. The cast is led by Janusz Krucinski, Marcin Rychcik and Pawel Tucholski as Jekyll/Hyde, Wioletta Bialk and Marta Florek as Lucy and Alona Szostak and Ewa Grysko as Emma.

Musical Színház is presenting their Hungarian production of Jekyll in Austria and Germany. The announced performance dates include 27 April in Innsbruck, Austria, 30 April in Linz, Austria and 7 June in Chiemsee, Bavaria, Germany. Performances are in English, with German subtitles.

The first Swedish cast recording of Jekyll is now available. The recording features the leads from the Excellence Production staging which recently concluded its run in Stockholm: Mikael Samuelson as Jekyll, Sarah Dawn Finer as Lucy and Myrra Malmberg as Emma. It is available from
Sound of Music, and from the Swedish sites cdon.com, ginza.se and megastore.se. Jekyll ran at China Teatern in Stockholm from 26 January through 26 April 2008.

Local and regional productions of Jekyll & Hyde are starting to take place throughout Germany. The show is currently being presented by Stadttheater Bielefeld in Bielefeld, 2 September 2007 - 3 July 2008; Staatstheater Saarbrücken in Saarbrücken, 15 December 2007 - 29 June 2008; and by Staatsoperette Dresden (Dresden State Opera) in Dresden, 25 January - 16 May 2008. The Dresden production has just announced a second season, running from 18 September 2008 through 13 May 2009.

The Scarlet Pimpernel

Hungarian Logo Pimpernel will have its long-awaited Hungarian premiere from 25-27 July 2008, presented by Szolnoki Szigligeti Színház at Margitszigeti Szabadtéri Színpad (Margaret Island Open-Air Theatre) in Budapest. A longer run will begin at Szolnoki Szigligeti Színház in Szolnok, 3 October 2008. The cast will be led by Attila Csengeri as Percy, Réka Koós as Marguerite and László Molnár as Chauvelin.

The German language premiere production of Pimpernel began its sixth season on 26 January 2008, with performances announced through 17 May 2008. The show will also travel from Opernhaus Halle to Stadttheater Baden in Baden, Austria, performing from 18 October through 30 November 2008. The cast in Baden will be led by Darius Merstein-MacLeod as Percy, Maricel as Marguerite and Chris Murray as Chauvelin.

Takarazuka Logo Takarazuka Revue - the famous, all-female theater company based in Takarazuka, Japan - will present the Japanese premiere production of Pimpernel next summer. Performances are slated for 20 June - 4 August 2008 in Takarazuka and 22 August - 5 October 2008 in Tokyo. The show will be presented by Star Troupe, with Kei Aran expected to play Percy and Asuka Toono as Marguerite. Shuichiro Koike directs.

A new cast recording is available from the Austrian Premiere production of Pimpernel, presented by Felsenbuehne Staatz. Markus Neugebauer is Percy, Elisabeth Sikora is Marguerite and Werner Auer is Chauvelin, under the musical direction of Gregor Sommer. The translation is by Wolfgang Adenberg. The Civil War / For The Glory

The Carnation City Players will present The Civil War in Alliance, Ohio, from 13-22 June 2008. Performances will take place at the Firehouse Theater on Fridays through Sundays.

The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum will present The Civil War outdoors at their Union Square Park in Springfield, Illinois, 24-27 July 2008.

Stephen Foster Productions presents a staging of The Civil War at the J. Dan Talbott Amphitheatre in Bardstown, Kentucky. Performances take place nightly at 8 PM from 18 through 23 August 2008.

Victor/Victoria

Mexican Cast Recording Victor/Victoria recently enjoyed a long run at Teatro de los Insurgents in Mexico City, Mexico. The cast was led by Daniela Romo as Victoria Grant, Mauricio Herrera as Toddy and Lisardo as King Marchan. Lisset and Chantal Andere played Norma Cassidy. The show played from 29 November 2006 through 13 January 2008. A Mexican Cast Recording is available, which includes a new song written by Frank for the show - "No Eliges Tu (You Don't Choose Love)". The recording also features "Créeme (Trust Me)", "Ensayo En El Club Cassell (Rehearsal In Club Cassell - Instrumental)", "Vivo Entre Las Sombras (Living In The Shadows)" and a reprise of the latter, along with 14 additional tracks. Karel Gott: Ma Pout Karel Gott, a Czech singer known as "The Sinatra of the East" and "The Golden Voice of Prague," included three of Frank's songs on his recent album "Má Pout (My Way)." The numbers include "Má Velká Chvíle (This Is The Moment)," "Hrísník Má Se Kát (Once Upon A Dream)" and "Dávný Román (One More Yesterday)," a new song written specifically for him by Frank Wildhorn and Jack Murphy. Nadine Beiler: Was Wir Sind Nadine Beiler, the 2007 winner of the Austrian talent show "Starmania", has recorded "Was Wir Sind" - a German version of "Something To Believe In." The song was released as a single on 4 May 2007, and then included on her first full-length album - "Komm Doch Mal Rüber" - released on 25 May. She also performed the song for the finale of "Dancing With The Stars," and it has appeared on the Austrian charts. The German lyric is by Florian Cojocaru. Yoka Wao Concert Yoka Wao, the lead performer from the Takarazuka premiere of Never Say Goodbye, included four of Frank's songs in a concert performance earlier this year. The concert was presented from 15 through 28 January, and has been released on DVD. It includes the title song from Never Say Goodbye, "The Steps of Tomorrow" and "I Was Born To Love You" (the latter a duet with Mari Hanafusa) from Rudolf, and "Love Crosses All Borders" from Mitsuko. The DVD is available from TCA Pictures or Takarazuka Video. Both sites are in Japanese and offer domestic shipping only. International orders can be placed through Crescent Shop.

Yoka Wao also premiered two more songs by Frank at the "New Yoka 2007 Rockin' Broadway" concert, 17-19 August 2007 at the Tokyo International Forum. She performed "Viva!" and "My Only Prayer" (the latter a duet with Mari Hanafusa), as well as the title song and "One Heart" from Never Say Goodbye. This concert will be released on DVD, on 7 November. It is available for purchase from Takarazuka-An (site in Japanese, domestic shipping only.
