Wonderland: A New Alice. A New Musical AdventureOpened on Broadway on 17 April 2011 at the Marquis Theatre, with previews beginning on 21 March. A pre-Broadway run will take place at the Straz Center in Tampa, Florida in January. The new stagings will be directed by Gregory Boyd and choreographed by Marguerite Derricks. The design team includes Neil Patel (sets), Susan Hilferty (costumes), Paul Gallo (lighting), Peter Hylenski (sound) and Sven Ortel (video and projections). The Broadway run will be produced by the David A. Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Arts, William Franzblau and Nederlander Presentations, Inc.
Several casting changes have just been announced for the upcoming stagings. E. Clayton Cornelious (The Scottsboro Boys) replaces previously-announced Tituss Burgess as The Caterpillar. Carly Rose Sonenclar (Les Misérables, Little House on the Prairie) has joined the cast as Chloe. Grady Bowman, Wilkie Ferguson, Laura Hall, Natalie Hill, Ryan Link, Kate Loprest, Renee Marino, Heather Parcells and Tanairi Vasquez have all joined the ensemble.
The cast will be led by Janet Dacal (In the Heights, Good Vibrations) as Alice, with Darren Ritchie (Dracula: The Musical, Thoroughly Modern Millie) as Jack/The White Knight, Jose Llana (Spelling Bee, Flower Drum Song) as El Gato, Karen Mason (Sunset Boulevard, Hairspray, Mamma Mia!) as The Queen of Hearts, Kate Shindle (Legally Blonde, Cabaret, Jekyll & Hyde) as The Mad Hatter, Edward Staudenmayer (Spamalot, The Scarlet Pimpernel) as The White Rabbit, and ensemble members April Berry, Sae La Chin, Dan Domenech, Mallauri Esquibel, Derek Ferguson, Lauren Lim Jackson, Morgan James, Stefan Raulston, Julius Anthony Rubio and Danny Stiles.
In this new musical featuring a new score, Wonderland is a story about a new Alice who has lost her joy in life. Estranged from her husband, alienated from her daughter and in danger of losing her career, Alice finds herself in Wonderland where she encounters strange though familiar characters that help her rediscover the wonder in her life while searching for her daughter.

The show had its world premiere as Wonderland: Alice's New Musical Adventure at the Straz Center in Tampa, Florida on 5 December 2009, followed by a run at the Alley Theatre in Houston, Texas. These stagings had direction by Gregory Boyd, choreography by Marguerite Derricks and music direction by Ron Melrose. The cast for the world-premiere production included Julie Brooks (Fiddler on the Roof national tour) as Chloe, Janet Dacal (In the Heights, Good Vibrations) as Alice Cornwinkle, Jose Llana (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee) as Hector/El Gato, Karen Mason (Sunset Boulevard, Mamma Mia!) as Mrs. Everheart/The Queen of Hearts, Darren Ritchie (Dracula: The Musical) as Jack/The White Knight, Nikki Snelson (Legally Blonde) as Madeline/The Mad Hatter, Ed Staudenmayer (Forbidden Broadway, The Scarlet Pimpernel) as Richard/The Rabbit and Tommar Wilson (Hair, Hairspray) as Theo/The Caterpillar. The ensemble included Tad Wilson, who also took on the featured role of the Jabberwock, along with Grady Bowman, Sae La Chin, Carrie Cimma, Colleen Craig, Dan Domenech, Krystal Ellsworth, Mallauri Esquibel, Lori Eure, Derek Ferguson, Ashley Galvan, Laura Karklina, Mary Mossberg, Stefan Raulston, Julius Anthony Rubio, Danny Stiles and Melinda Sullivan.
The developmental staging premiered at the David A. Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Arts (previously called the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center). Performances at the Center's Ferguson Hall began with previews on 24 November 2009, officially opened on 5 December and ran through 3 January 2010. The show was the inaugural effort for the Center's Broadway Genesis Project, under the leadership of Judith Lisi.
The show then played at Houston's Alley Theatre, where Frank has launched such projects as Jekyll & Hyde and The Civil War. The Houston staging took place on the Hubbard Stage from 15 January through 14 February 2010, with an opening night of 20 January, and was one of the highest grossing productions in the Alley Theatre's history.
A concept recording of the show has been released, featuring Janet Dacal as Alice, Julie Brooks as Chloe, Eugene Fleming as The Caterpillar, Jose Llana as El Gato, Karen Mason as The Queen Of Hearts, Darren Ritchie as The White Knight, Nikki Snelson as The Mad Hatter, Ed Staudenmayer as The Rabbit and Tad Wilson as the Jabberwock. The album also includes "This Is The Moment" from Jekyll & Hyde, "Hell To Your Doorstep" from The Count of Monte Cristo and "Loving You Keeps Me Alive" from Dracula.
